Although San Jose was his hometown, the world was his oyster. And so, off he went...
Reid Martin Basso is an actor, author and musician, having graduated from San Jose State University in Music Performance.
Believing it was finally time to return to actually enjoying life, in the Summer of 2010, Basso abandoned the career corporate grind and returned to his creative arts "roots" in staged theater, an entertainment medium he's always savored. Thus, after a 20-year break, Reid Martin Basso dipped his toes back into live theater by portraying Chicago mafia villian 'Big Jule' in a nine performance run of GUYS & DOLLS at Brentwood Arts Society's Saddlespan Playhouse. Basso next portrayed tormented General 'Horatio Kitchener’ in THE AUCTION GALLERY, also at The Saddlespan in Brentwood.
As recently as January 2011, Basso pulled out his old ROCKY HORROR SHOW script that had been stored away in a box of college memories from the last time he performed in THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW. Whereas over two decades he'd previously portrayed the roles of both Dr. Frank N. Furter and Brad Majors, this time around Basso had 'matured' into the role of 'The Narrator' in a unique modern dance inspired live adaptation of ROCKY HORROR at Sacramento's Guild Theater.
Basso's other past live stage performances include THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, CABARET, MY FAIR LADY, OF MICE AND MEN, and HAMLET.
Basso's one cinematic exploration is resigned to a stint in the title role of 'Otto' in Dan Robba's & Rock Bottom Production's 1993 underground cult favorite 'OTTO AT THE RAVE.'
Basso has worked for San Jose Symphony, San Jose Cleveland Ballet, Opera San Jose, Spartan Roving Playhouse, SJSU Players Guild, Club O, and Cactus Club. Musically, Basso's modern music ensemble DETSKY MIR, which he fronted, toured with old new wave favorites BOOK OF LOVE, VOICE FARM and DEVO.
His most recent book, "The Confessions of a Jilted Superstar In His Many Conversations With God", published in 2006, is currently being re-penned for both a theater application, as well as a screen adaptation.
Basso's next book, "My Life On The 'Q' List" will be released in early 2012 as a sequel to Jilted Superstar.
Along with being a proud father and husband, Reid Martin Basso is also a decorated U.S. military veteran.
